TV shows become movies

I was hearing about the Get Smart movie the other day and wonder if it will be as bad a all the others. I can't really think of any of the other old shows that have become movies that really worked. (Yes, the Addams Family movies are an exception). But in general it seems that they either change it so much to make it a movie or perhaps just miss the point, or feel that they should capitalize on the fans and familiar name but really don't want it to be like the old. I know a few have attempted to "update" the premise or situation (The Bradys and Bewitched were interesting attempts)...

Day one

I started this blog to give a home to thoughts that I have had for sometime about the much beloved but seemingly troubled art of the Sitcom. To my mind one of the biggest problems is the shrinking market, budget and schedule of the non-cable networks. But there are other causes and connections as well and I hope to look at them over time.

I also hope that this is a good place to talk about what is still out there and working and why. What has been great in the past (although even I sometimes have a harder time watching reruns than I used to (why? is it just cable?) and why I think this is a great television form that is worth looking at...
